Some dogs come into your life as part of a plan, only to leave their mark in ways you never expected.
Kentucky, Tucker, had caught Kirstie's eye long before he ever came to live with her. There was something about his style and overall look that she loved, and when the opportunity arose for him to join the family several years later, it was an easy decision. Handsome, sweet and full of personality, Kentucky very quickly made himself at home.
Affectionately remembered as a genuine class clown, Kentucky was one of those dogs who always seemed to make people smile. He adored his tennis balls, preferably attempting to carry two or three at once, loved the water and was an accomplished food thief with absolutely no discrimination when it came to unattended groceries. He became wonderful friends with Kirstie's Dobermann Koda, his easy-going companionship helping to bring out a more social side of her too. Above everything else, Kentucky was simply an incredibly sweet, good-natured dog who was a pleasure to live with.
Kentucky also enjoyed success in the show ring, becoming a multiple Best Exhibit in Group winner and winning numerous Classes in Show. One particularly special achievement came at a Hungarian Vizsla Specialty, where he was awarded Reserve Challenge Dog to his half-brother. This was the first time Kirstie had been awarded a place in a Specialty Challenge line-up.
While Kentucky would not ultimately become part of the Batorok breeding program, he still left an unexpected mark on its beginnings. From Kirstie's earliest days in the breed, she had repeatedly found herself drawn to a particular family of dogs. Kentucky was one of several closely related dogs she had admired, and living with him only strengthened that appreciation for the qualities they shared.
Years later, when the time came to search for the right dog to pair with Armani, one particular boy stood out. Looking more closely at his pedigree revealed something that felt wonderfully familiar - he was Kentucky's half-nephew, and closely related to several of those same dogs Kirstie had admired years before. After repeatedly being drawn back to the same family, finding him somehow felt like everything had come full circle.
That dog was Arnie, and together Arnie and Armani would become the original Batorok foundation pair. Kentucky had quietly helped shape an appreciation for the family that ultimately would become part of our breeding program. Kentucky wasn't destined to become part of a Batorok pedigree, but somehow he still became part of its story.
Kentucky later retired to a wonderful home where he was very much loved, although sadly his life was far too short. He is remembered not only for the small but meaningful part he played in helping shape our future, but for the dog he was every day - handsome, funny, quirky, endlessly sweet and always a Good Dog.
